Global Village program
As suggested by the name, Habitat for Humanity places a strong emphasis on building homes around the world. Volunteers today can build with Habitat affiliates in many locations on a Global Village Trip. Participants are able to register for trips to their destination of choice. Teams generally number between eight and fifteen, with trips usually lasting between nine to fourteen days.
When people of different faiths and cultures come together to build a house, individuals learn from and find new respect for one another. Coming together with the common goal of building a house with a neighbour in need has proven to be a successful way for bringing healing to divided communities and creating a sense of cross-cultural unity.
A global village trip can be a life-changing experience. Teams of volunteers visit countries in need and help build houses in the local communities. You will be more than a tourist; you will be welcomed into the community by your hosts and introduced to the local culture as a guest. You will develop an understanding of issues facing the community, learn more about another culture and learn more about yourself.
Global village teams bring invaluable support to the communities they visit. More homes are built each year because of the donation global village teams make to the host community.
