| Irish Reality-Based TV show visits Habitat for Humanity Zambia |
| In August, Do the Right Thing an Irish Reality-based TV show that celebrates all that is good about the human spirit by putting a call for aspiring volunteers from all walks of life with a passion for helping others brought down to Habitat for Humanity Zambia sixteen volunteer finalists to participate in a three-day build. This was a great opportunity to showcase and highlight Habitat for Humanity’s partnership model that is unique and different from other volunteer organizations. The sixteen volunteers built a house for Robert Lungu and his family who had been displaced due to illegal settlement. Mr. Lungu, his wife Godfridah and family were among the families affected. |

Godfridah narrates that it was around 3 o’clock in the morning of 3rd November, 2002 when they heard a noise of a what thought was a big truck. Instead, it was a bull dozer which had been hired to demolish their houses. Around 6 o’clock that morning, the bull dozer was at the Lungus door step. A three roomed house which Robert had spent a lot time and money building for his family. They were asked to remove all their belongings and roofing sheets from the house. When they were done, the house was crushed. I can only imagine how painful it was to watch all this happen (words of the OVC Officer). No warning had been given to the residents but it is believed that the community leadership knew about it yet could not disclose it as they were responsible for selling the illegal land |
