Three strategic Directions for HFHZ:
1) By 2011, HFHZ will have improved and strengthened its
governance and management in order to achieve effective
Programme implementation;
Governance and Management
Habitat for Humanity Zambia has in the last few years taken a
number of steps to strengthen its governance and management
which includes the establishment of a local National Board.
However, evidence arising from the HFHZ evaluation conducted in
the 2005 indicates that there are still a number of issues that
need to be addressed in governance and management. This includes
the systems development in order to ensure effective internal
controls, revision of the organizational structures so as to
appropriately respond to the growing demand for HFHZ services.
2) By 2011, HFHZ will have achieved a diverse and
sustainable resource base through appropriate and effective
communication and advocacy strategies;
Resource Development, Communication and Advocacy (RDCA)
Habitat for Humanity Zambia mainly depends on external resources
for the implementation of its activities. Presently HFHZ
receives considerable support from Habitat for Humanity
International and a number of other cooperating partners.
However, HFHZ continues to face supply constraints in meeting
the growing demand for housing in Zambia. Several reasons can be
cited for this growing demand and it includes the poor
performance of the economy as well as the lack of government
commitment to deal with this sector of the community who require
housing. Given the limited resources locally and
internationally, the issue of sustainability has taken centre
stage. HFHZ therefore needs to proactively identify potential
partnerships in order to continue with the work at affiliate
level. Habitat for Humanity Zambia recognizes the need
to actively participate in advocacy and hence provide a holistic
service to all the needy people.
3) By 2011, HFHZ will have a sustainable revolving fund
through a strengthened service delivery system
Affiliate Development and Technical Support
Habitat for Humanity Zambia recognizes that it needs to
strengthen the system of providing assistance for housing to all
its operational areas. There is recognition that the house
numbers can be increased.
